The Silk & the Palette
We select only the finest grade silk and pure zari, setting the border direction and colour story with reverence for occasion and durability.
Heirloom Kanjivaram sarees in pure mulberry silk and real gold zari — temple borders, peacocks and rudraksh motifs, woven thread by thread the way three generations have always done it.
At Sree Meenakshi Silk Kendra, a saree is not merely woven — it is authored. For three generations, the rhythmic clack of the handloom has been the steady heartbeat of our house, preserving the ancient weaving language of Kanchipuram.
"It is silk, zari, and memory, brought together for families who seek an heirloom."
Our founder, Mr. Raghupathy, established a lineage of uncompromising devotion to the craft. Today, under the guidance of Mr. R. Varadhan, that discipline remains unbroken. We do not mass-produce fabric — we take the slow, deliberate months needed so that every temple border and peacock motif meets the standard of a true masterpiece.

The true value of a Kanjivaram lies in the unseen discipline — the uncompromising choice of pure mulberry silk, the deliberate strike of the loom, the refusal to rush.

A Kanjivaram silk saree, cared for properly, can be treasured across generations. Here is our guidance on keeping silk and zari in pristine condition.
Always fold your Kanjivaram saree along the border lines, never against them. This preserves the zari and prevents permanent creasing of the gold threads.
Wrap each saree individually in clean, unbleached muslin or soft cotton. Avoid plastic and airtight containers — silk needs to breathe to keep its natural lustre.
Store in a cool, dry space away from direct sunlight. Place neem leaves or dried lavender nearby to naturally repel moths without chemicals.
Dry cleaning is recommended for Kanjivaram silk, particularly with heavy zari work. Always choose a specialist who handles silk and handloom fabrics.
If hand-washing at home, use cold water with a very mild detergent or a few drops of baby shampoo. Never wring or twist — gently press the water out.
Avoid long soaking, which can cause colour bleeding and weaken the zari over time.
Iron on the reverse side only, on a low-to-medium silk setting. Place a thin muslin or cotton cloth between the iron and the saree to protect the zari.
Avoid steam directly on zari borders, as moisture can tarnish it. For stubborn creases, hang the saree in a steamy bathroom for 15–20 minutes before pressing gently.
Pure gold zari, as used in our sarees, does not tarnish. Zari with silver or copper content may darken over time — gently wipe with a soft, dry cloth to restore shine.
Never apply perfume, deodorant or hairspray directly onto zari. The chemicals can permanently damage metallic threads.
Re-fold stored sarees every 3–4 months along different crease lines to prevent permanent fold marks.
During monsoon, place silica gel packets near storage to absorb humidity, which can cause mildew on silk.
In dry winter months, briefly air your sarees in indirect sunlight every few weeks to prevent mustiness and keep the silk supple.
After wearing, air the saree on a padded hanger for a few hours before folding, letting body moisture evaporate naturally.
Families across generations have trusted Sree Meenakshi Silk Kendra for their most significant occasions.
